Since the transition in 1989 in our country the area of Ziemia Lubuska has been modernised in terms of the technical infrastructure. The biggest progress has been achieved in communications and waste management however in other areas the situation has been improved as well.
The road network in Lubuskie covers 7812 km of hard surfaced roads. Most of them have been used for transit traffic in so called European transport corridors Berlin-Moscow and Scandinavia-North of continent. The Polish-German border can be crossed by eight border checkpoints including the most important border checkpoint in Świecko.
Railway in our province covers in total 1848.5 km and enables free movement and communication with the rest of the country. The most important are two main lines going through the province: Śląsk - Szczecin and railway border checkpoint in Kunowice Kunowicach - Poznań - Warsaw.
On the territory of our province also the airport in Babimost is located consequently it is possible to get faster to Warsaw. This airport can also be used for international flights.
Lubuskie province has also reported very fast development of telecommunications. The number of subscribers has been regularly increasing. In 2003 there were 333 per each 1000 of people. Despite the national operator Polish Telecommunications (TPSA) there are also other competitive companies such as: Telefonia Polska Zachód and Telefonia Lokalna Dialog, resulting in decreasing prices and improving the services quality. Mobile phones network: Era, Plus and Idea can be proud of strong development dynamics. Their range covers almost the whole territory of the province. Additionally is possible to observe fast internet expansion.
In Lubuskie province electric energy is produced by: Complex of Hydroelectric Power Stations in Dychów, Heat and Power Plant Gorzów and heat and Power plant Zielona Góra. These producers provide about 245 MW of power, about 50% of the total demand. The Rest of energy is bought from other parts of Poland.
In all bigger towns of the province there are water supply systems. They are used by more than 93% of the towns’ population. Together with economic changes after '89, also ecology has improved. In most of the towns operate mechanical and biological sewage treatment plants meeting the highest technological and technical standards.
The heat is obtained mainly by burning coal and on the second place natural gas. The thermal energy is produced mostly in heat and power plants as well as in boiler houses.
77% of the towns’ population uses natural gas. Very important is also the fact that Yamal gas pipeline goes through the province area supplying the fuel from Russia to Western Europe.
